Creating a bank of biological samples and a bank of clinical data

Facilitate biological and clinical resources in order to validate research hypotheses of PremUp programs.

PROJECT LEADERS

Dr Claude Danan, MD, in charge of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Clinical Research Unit of the Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal of Creteil. Inserm U955 IMRB Team13, Faculty of Medicine of Créteil.
Dr Jérôme Barré, PharmD, PhD in charge of Pharmacology-Toxicology Unit and the Clinical Research Unit of the Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal of Créteil.

Context

  • Under the aegis of PremUp, three centres of perinatality function as a network of research and treatment: the Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal of Créteil, the Robert Debré hospital and the Cochin-Port Royal hospital.
  • With a total of 8.000 births, including 2.000 premature babies, in the three level III centres, and 70.000 births per year in the 52 level 1 and II maternity hospitals associated with these three centres, this provision of care constitutes the most important perinatal facility in the Ile de France region.
  • To be fully operational, this PremUp network needs:
    • A centre of Biological Resources, i.e a bank for receiving, storing and processing biological samples (blood, amniotic and tracheal fluids, placenta...) taken in the three centres from mothers and premature babies for research purposes.
    • A centre of Clinical Resources, i.e a bank of clinical data centralizing clinical, radiological and biological data from mothers and premature babies and giving clear information about the initial condition and progress of the patients being cared for.

Objectives

  • Create a unique centre of Biological and Clinical Resources, which will be unequalled world-wide, to cater for the range of issues taken up by PremUp researchers.
  • Put together research projects, based on this collection of data, to identify new biological, protein or genetic biomarkers, for early diagnosis of pathologies of pregnancy and prematurity so as to take adequate care of women at high risk and to prevent risks associated with prematurity.
  • Validate, with the aid of these two banks, research hypotheses on the causes and mechanisms of pathologies of pregnancy and prematurity.

Added value of PremUp foundation

PremUp, through the acknowledged quality of its research laboratories (10 laboratories and 130 researchers), the size and competence of its teams of medical staff, (2.000 professionals) as well as the number of births taken care of every year, provides an exceptional environment for expanding and exploiting these data banks. This project is supported by the international scientific council of PremUp.
