Results of the "Parents-premature baby born, how to help them so as to bring them together"

Sonia GUILLAUME and Brigitte BENIER, members of PremUp's Nursing research group, presented the outcomes of the "Lien parents-enfants prématurés, comment bien les soutenir pour mieux les unir" study ("Parents-premature baby born, how to help them so as to bring them together" study) at the 6th G4 Paramedical Training on March 17th 2011 in Amiens.

This research study sponsored by Procter & Gamble, started on September 2008 and its aim was to show the role of the paramedical healthcare team in the development of the bonds between parents and premature newborns. The results confirmed the importance of the communication between the parents and the paramedical healthcare professionals. Not only regarding their technical knowledge but also information about how to take better care of the babies. Parents highlighted that the support of the paramedical healthcare professionals was essential to start building the parent-child bond. They also emphasized that the healthcare professionals should help them to avoid all sources of anxiety and misunderstanding.
